I love my dad. And we both love John Mayer’s album Born and Raised.
He just wrote me this:
“Hey Anna,
It seems to me that you are born and raised, even if you are the queen of California! You were brought up in brighter days, and while it may appear that you are living in an age of worry, you just need to realize that your shadow days are over. Maybe sometimes it would be nice to have someone speak for you. It may be someone like Olivia that makes the difference. Once you get around to living you will find that love really is a verb! Too much whiskey, whiskey, whiskey guarantees a submarine test, whether you like it or not. (Most of the time, it involves a breathalyzer). You definitely have more than just a face to call home. You really have it all.

Extremely creative,
Dad”
P.S. My sister’s name is Olivia :)

Edit: I responded!
Dear Dad,
You are correct. I have been born and raised in the opposite of shadow days. And while we are all alive in the age of worry, love is a verb and a powerful one at that. Sometimes, you have to pull a Walt Grace and dream big enough to ride your submarine through whiskey, whiskey, whiskey, until you make it to the coast of California. If you ever get around to living there (or anywhere), don’t look for a place to call home, look for a face, look for people. Look for someone like Livvy, look for yourself. Let no one speak for you and always fill your ears with good music.
Love,
Anna
